THE STUDENTS’ STRATEGIES IN LEARNING ENGLISH VOCABULARY

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze students’ learning strategies used in improving their English vocabulary. This research methodology involves interviews as well as focus group discussions to obtain data. The research found that students employ five strategies of improving their English vocabulary:  (1) Social strategies, (2) Memory strategies, (3) Cognitive strategies, (4) Metacognitive strategies, and (5) Pomodoro technique. Moreover, students employ Metacognitive strategies the most, then follow Cognitive strategies, Social strategies, Memory strategies, and Pomodoro technique as strategies, which is employed the least in learning English vocabulary.
