INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HOMEROOM TEACHER AND STUDENTS' PARENTS TO FORM STUDENTS' CHARACTER AT SMP NEGERI 1 WATAMPONE

This study aims to analyze interpersonal communication between homeroom teacher and students' parents in forming students' character at SMPN 1 Watampone, specifically in Class 8 CIBI. It uses references to the characteristics of interpersonal communication, namely openness, empathy, supportiveness, positiveness, and equality. This research employs a descriptive qualitative research design, with data obtained in the form of explanations and descriptions. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with the homeroom teacher and students' parents, observations, and documentation. The research findings indicate that effective interpersonal communication between the homeroom teacher and students' parents plays a crucial role in forming students' character, such as discipline, responsibility and honesty. Factors such as openness and empathy support the establishment of harmonious communication, while the main obstacles are found in time constraints and differing perceptions regarding educational responsibilities. This study concludes that to achieve success in character development for students, a balanced and supportive interpersonal communication between homeroom teacher and parents is necessary, taking into account aspects of openness, empathy, supportiveness, positiveness, and equality.
